    Pada 7 Desember 1941, pelabuhan Pearl Harbor yang penuh kapal perang AS diserang mendadak tanpa ada peringatan oleh armada udara Jepang sehingga begitu banyak korban berjatuhan. Akibatnya Amerika Serikat yang tadinya masih ragu terlibat dalam Perang Dunia II, pun sepenuhnya bergabung dengan Sekutu dan menyatakan perang pada Jepang dan dua sekutunya, Jerman dan Italia.
